Duodenum2*-16

Duodenum and Ileum. Villi form a fine, fur-like lining on the inside of the small intestine. This is the main absorptive surface of the gut and it extracts nutrients from the slurry produced in the stomach. The gut constricts  sequentially in a process called peristalsis (visible in the background) to drive food along its length.
