Cortisol. The stress hormone. These 'psychadelic' crystals were grown on the surface of a microscope slide and photographed using polarised light  giving it this vibrant appearance. It is the hormone which helps govern our metabolism  and is actually responsible for much of the physiological problems associated with stress routinely blamed on adrenalin
